I was prescribed that to help ease pain at night and help me sleep and boy does it help you sleep. For a while now I've been suffering with my feet, it started off with a little numbness in my toes and pins and needles feeling, now just feels like my feet are just aching ALL the time, doctors have not diagnosed anything but put me on amitriptyline which apparently will help??? Only been taking it for a few days but not helping yet, I'm in pain, will it work ??
My HbA1c is now 35. My feet continue to get worse. Hands are much better though.I was diagnosed a year ago, 9months ago my specialist nurse did some tests and found I had lost any feeling in my right big toe. I was also getting cold feet very often, which I had never had before.
Since I have managed to get my BG levels under control, I think my feeling in my toe has returned, and I do not get such cold feet anymore. But I still often get a tingling / pain sensation in my feet.
Dr Bernstein (American diabetic dr and author of diabetic solution), States in his book that once normalised BG sugar levels are achieved many patients see a rapid improvement in numbness and pain in toes, but sometimes followed by pain several months after, which eventually resolves itself as sensation returns, suggesting that nerves generate pain signals whilst they are healing.
Something to consider maybe.

3 sounds a bit dodgy. It's worth looking at your diet too... if you haven't already:
1) cut down on caffeine intake (especially tea)
2) drink more water and replace most caffienated drinks with herbal ones - green tea is especially good for cleansing the body
3) introduce some honey (have it in green tea)
4) take Omega 3, and Evening Primrose Oil daily

How bizarre. I have a packet of amitriptyline in front of me right now and have no idea what it is for. it is sugar so I avoid it.Not if carefully managed as part of your total carb intake / activity regimen... I have about 1/2 teaspoon per mug but am often on the go with two young children
