Hi All,
Just thought I'd update you, last week (Sun) I finally got around to asking on here if anyone else had had a 'Pain in right thigh bone/muscle' after months of it only really bothering me at night.... Oh and I should correct that it was actually my left leg... Anyway, long story short, I then suffered a problem while out shopping at Tesco's (Tues) where my leg gave way (it just wasn't there) and I had to quickly just stand/hop on my right leg to stop myself falling over... I kept trying to stand on my left leg, but each time, it just felt like it wasn't there/being very weak... it took me about 30mins to able to shuffle out of tesco's before things started sorting themselves out. with lots of pain now coming from the leg....
But I thought nothing of it, other than it was a continuation of my leg pain issue, but then I thought, that actually I better see the Dr, before anything else happened (as this leg pain issue seemed to be here to stay having had it for months), so Thurs saw the doctor, to my surprise he wasn't interested in the fact I'd not mentioned a leg issue before, however he was concerned about my leg giving way, and not being there/being weakened. He then told me that, that was a classic TIA symptom, which as being diabetic, and having elevated cholesterol, I was at very high risk from - (and slightly overweight.....)
He immediately prescribed me aspirin, even thou I offered to get tesco's best 30p Box, but he insisted... He also said he was contacting the stroke unit at Winchester (I live in Hampshire) who would get hold of me very shortly to see a consultant.
I suppose I still hadn't quite registered how serious this was as I asked him how many pills was he prescribing (16) and that I suppose I'll just buy another box when they run out... He said that they would contact me and I would be seen before I ran out, take one pill a day...
The stroke unit called me 3 hours later and I had an appointment the next day (Fri)...
So I saw consultant who listened to what happened he also ignoring the leg pain and confirmed with questions that I was presenting a TIA, he organised an ultrasound of my neck (jugular veins area) which I had 30mins later and an MRI organised for next week of my head as they want to check the brain for signs of a TIA.
In the meantime he immediately issued me with a blood thinner (clopidogrel) and organised a repeat appointment with him in 6 weeks times (unless he calls me in earlier).
All of this from a leg pain... I just thought that as I'd not seen anything (on here) on Mini-Strokes (especially as we are high risk) that I ought to let others know, as I just thought that this was my leg issue playing up, I'd never of thought it was a TIA... Its still might not be, but it is getting checked out.
As well as the the blood thinner I've now started taking the Statin that I've been in two minds about...
But now its simple, Mini-stroke can lead to a Stroke, that being the case I'd rather remove the possibility in the short term and do everything I can, so taking Pravastatin as well, until everything is check out and diet wise as well, low fat now, not high fat.
I'll let you know how I get on, I'm not worried, just glad I saw the Doctor, I didn't think it was going to turn out to be this serious.
