Panicked about my big toe

Hi,

I recently got a new job which requires me to kneel down a lot and reach elevated shelves. I used to get down and balance myself in a way that ended up hurting me for the next 2 days whenever I'd walk. Now I simply lay my foot sideways and flat on the ground as to not put force or my weight on that specific part of my foot. I also used to get on my toes for ~20 seconds while having items in my hand of significant weight but now I use a step instead.
The image below is the shape my foot would take when lowering myself to the lower surfaces. I'd do that with both feet for perhaps 20-30 seconds as well, several times every shift.

Before I was diagnosed, I was at higher levels (around 20-25 mmol/L or 360-450 mg/dL for around 1,5 straight). Additionally, I used my lower back a lot at this job, especially when unloading cargo which can contain 10k kg (22k lbs) which I do anywhere from 0 to 2 times per shift. I've learned to use my lower back less and rely on my arms more to avoid my back from hurting again in the future. My back currently no longer hurts. It also would no longer hurt after 2 days of not working.

The part of my big toe on my right foot which feels numb is circled in this image:

A slightly bigger circle around is also feels more numb than any other spot on my foot but it's not as numb as the spot within that circle.

It's worth noting that 2 weeks after being diagnosed, my glucose has been very very stable ranging from 4-8 mmol/L or 72-144 mg/dL pretty much at all times with the exception of 0 to 2 (very rarely more) lows per day. If I'm too high, it's also corrected very quickly and never has it ever been frequent or long-lasting. I always correct my glucose within 10, sometimes 15 minutes of receiving an alarm.

I'm very stressed out and have already contacted my specialist but I can't expect a response before Monday.
This is the third day I'm having this feeling. I'd really like to hear your thoughts.

Thank you in advance,
Gardevoir

27/07: It appears to have slightly spread towards the bottom part of my big toe and the absolute corner of where my nail starts. I'll see if it worsens. I'm not sure if it was this way from the start but I definitely still feel it, or well, in this case don't.

02/08: It hasn't become bigger since 27/07. I'm almost sure it became slightly bigger since I initially posted this judging by the image I drew at the time. Although I'm very scared, I'll continue to try and be on top of it. May it get worse, I'll for sure contact my specialist about it again. I don't mean this to be a diary, I just wanted to update/inform may others come across this thread with a similar question or concern.

When I first started on high dose steroids for a chest condition several years ago that was the only negative side effect. A numb toe. Exactly where you have circled it. The GP or any other Dr who I told about it have never been particularly concerned with it even when I was diagnosed as type 2 a couple of weeks ago. It hasn’t got any worse in all that time.
I hope that helps. Try not to stress.

Thank you, that's genuinely very comforting to hear. Do you still feel the numbness at that spot and it simply hasn't worsened or did it tone down?

I still have it. Weirdly,, i don’t know if i am always aware of it or just when i have been on the steroids. I finished the steroids about 2 weeks ago and I am still aware of it.

Thank you for your insight. I hope it's not troubling you too much! I don't notice it while walking or doing everyday things but once I take my socks off and sit at my desk, I'm (as of now at least) constantly aware of it, just mentally occupied with it I guess.

As for my last post within this thread, I'd like to confirm that this was unrelated to diabetes. I deal with a lot of physical weight at work. I noticed that my toes would receive a lot of pressure while attempting to balance myself/push against weight. This caused the nerves in my big toes to basically become crushed by this weight over time without it hurting. I work with 8000-12000 kg for ~45 minutes 4-5 days every week. Since 2 weeks ago, I also noticed the same spot on my other foot's big toe becoming numb as well. This also explains why my right toe's numb spot got slightly bigger from when I first noticed it; I didn't associate it with what I was doing at work, therefor not avoiding the problem.

I've changed the way I balance myself by using my entire foot (like I should've from the start) and have seen an improvement in my stance. Not only is it more comfortable and easy to work that way but my physique also feels better and I feel less exhausted afterwards.
Always be careful with your sensitive finger(tips) and feet. I hope this'll come in handy may others stumble across this thread.
