Hi guys
For the last couple years pasta spaghetti meals have been almost impossible to balance.
I have read split dose etc but here’s my problem.
I ate 75g white pasta at 6.30pm. I’m on novorapid and always pre bolus before meals but as I knew I was eating pasta I injected after my meal. Come 9 o’clock I am battling with low sugars (2.5ish) so I ate a couple biscuits - nothing too carby. Done my Basal insulin as normal and go to bed.
by 2.30am I awake as realise blood is high - 18.2 and going up so yes very annoyed. this has only started to happen last couple years , why? Any advise welcome

It’s not as though I am new to diabetes or badly controlled - 32 years and a HBA1C in low 40’s ‍♂️

My own response to pasta (and other carby meals) has also changed. It seems more apparent when I eat pasta as an evening meal. My blood glucose is within range at the 2 hr mark and I wake up with levels in the mid teens.

Use of the Freestyle Libre showed that my levels were starting to rise around 3am. I have been experimenting with upping my evening basal (Levemir) for carby evening meals and I am getting better results now.

Are you on split basal doses or once per day?

I changed from levemir to Tresiba a couple years ago. I split dose and achieve great results with any other meal - it just seems to be the pasta meals that spike.

Yes, pasta can be tricky. Moving it to lunch as @urbanracer suggests or adding extra tests can help monitor the response.
