Pam - That sounds like an upsetting appointment your sister had.

In terms of Patient Rights, they form part of the NHS Constitution here: http://www.ncuh.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/nhs-constitution/rights-and-responsibilities.aspx

Citizen's Advice also cover it, and amy be more user friendly language: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/health/nhs-healthcare/nhs-patients-rights/

I hope things improve for your sister.

Often the best option with DNs is to just say you are not eating sugar and high GI food and if they ask about fat say you avoid trans fats. What a DNs does not know they can't tell you off for.

@pamK , I'm looking at this from a T1 perspective, not sure how well that translates to a T2 position, but my take on it is that I go to my checkups, if I get advice that conflicts with what works for me, I'll sometimes discuss why we disagree, maybe sometimes I'll end up agreeing with them if they persuade me, other times not, and sometimes, I'll just nod my head, and then carry on doing what I want.

Important point to remember is that unless your sis is subject to some sort of court ruling which gives docs the power to insist what must be done, she is a free person in a free world who can do whatever she wants, including ignoring dsn advice.

A dsn cannot demand anything. I'd forget about patient's rights, it's too much hassle which will tie your sis and an overburdened NHS up in legal knots.

Instead, I'd nod my head, pay a bit of lip service to what they're saying, and then carry on doing whatever I want - if that's lc and it works for your sis, go for it.

Thank you all so much i will get it for her Sis is not as quick with replies as myself i have read so much but i will put her right especially when DN says to her "You don't need a print out or know your results sorry but that is Bull S#*t (sorry for my word) but sis did say yes I DO so we will see what happens next time Why are some people not willing for you to try and help yourself but a BIG thank you all :)

PamK - If your sister's practice has patient access (and the should have it, although not all do), she would be able to view her own results, without having to ask for a printout. It's marvellous.
