Hello,

Posted this on questions as well but not sure which is the correct forum. I always considered myself very active and only slightly overweight, yet I was just diagnosed with prediabetes with a 5.8 glucose score about a month ago. I'm currently 5'11" and weigh 197 lbs. I had and am still exercising since Feb 2014 after gaining about 15 lbs over the last two years. I've lost about all of that 15 lbs. but I'm trying to get down to 185 lbs. I've adjusted my diet for the last month since being diagnosed as a prediabetic eating greek yogurts, fruits, eggs, whole grain bread, smoked turkey breast and my favorite new snack peanut butter and celery. I've been gorging myself on celery and peanut butter but was getting concerned about the fat, so I looked at low fat peanut butter and see that it has more carbs and more sugar than regular peanut butter :/ Can anyone make a suggestion on what peanut butter works best for my condition? I ate a 16 oz. jar with a lot of celery in about 6 days. Is that too much?

Thanks
MikeXD

What is the saturated fats in the peanut butter? And surely you wouldn't be using alot of peanut butter!!

@MikeXD greek yogurts, fruits, eggs, whole grain bread, smoked turkey breast and my favorite new snack peanut butter and celery.
You're on the right track I would say except I eat hardly any fruit that doesn't end in -berry, and always with double cream; the only bread I eat is Waitrose Livlife lo-carb and only one piece every few days; my peanut butter is under 8% carb so it's not too bad. I keep right away from low-fat anything. Try and vary your p. butter with other stuff.
PS I don't trust anything smoked, sorry

I have some no added sugar peanut butter , I must eat it more ..thanks everyone you have just reminded me about it ....

I couldnt survive without my peanut butter, im good not having it too much, and i like marmite with it, they go together well, or i thought so, my daughter says im weird.:wacky:

Have you tried Natex instead of Marmite? It's supposed to be lower salt but Marmite doesn't say how much salt it has. Natex is pricey though.

2.5g of sat. fat per serving = 2 tbsp. I think the consensus is I've been eating too much peanut butter.

Well you're not getting away with that :) What's its name?
Whole earth planet organic ....have seen it in super markets like tesco and holland and barret etc .....
It is really nice ...mine came from tesco ....

Hi @noblehead ..as far as I can remember yes ...I do have a spare jar , because I became excited when I found it ..., but can't rember the cost ....sorry about that ...I bought it earlier this year ...I will have a look next time I am out shopping in supermarket ...which can be cheaper than health food shop at times ... I did use half a jar with some oats and butter for some, soya for me ....made flap jacks with the peanut butter ...not bad ...

Don't worry Kat, I'm often in Tesco's so will look out for the peanut butter, the idea of home-made flap jacks sound nice btw :)

Well I am a dumbo, I have the Original one, also no added sugar. In some places it looks as though the organic is cheaper. Anyway thanks :)

Thank you @noblehead we only go once a week and we were there today
You will find it there ....hope you get some ....
The recepie for the flap jacks come from sweet freedom ...I have made them twice in the last year ....The syrup ..sweetfreedom is something that can be used in a diabetic diet but again personal,choice...made from apples and caco ....they do a dark and light syrup and a chocolate one as well ...
It is not cheap around £3 ...but you don't need to use much ...instead of homey, for me I put a bit on porridge ....there is a site about it ...
I get that in Morrisons .....best wishes ..Kat

No way would I suggest you are eating too much saturated fat!

But I might say you were eating too many carbs ;)

We all need to find what works for us. I eat low carb high fat. Works like a dream to stabilise my blood sugar, and I'm losing weight. Cholesterol and triglycerides fine.

And all that after I have upped my saturated fat significantly.

That peanut butter ..the jar will last for years ....:D

I eat the Whole Earth no sugar added crunchy peanut butter, and this lasts me well over a month., A whole pound of this per week would be (from Tesco's data) just over 40g carbs, so over 6/7 days that wouldn't be excessive, but you really need to look at the labelling on your brand to check the nutritional data for carbs. How much you (should!!) eat will depend partly on that but also on what quantity of carbohydrates per day or week you consider acceptable to get or keep your glucose levels where you want them.

My weakness is Meridian's Almond Butter, and if I scoff a whole 170g jar of this a week it's just under 2g carbs a day, so I don't consider it a serious sin...:p:p And it's nice and oily too.
