I have been trying Sainsburys's basics peanut butter for the first time as suggested by another poster, and I am quite surprised to find I actually like it. I notice that is does have added sugar though. Can anyone suggest a brand with lowest carb/sugar content, and maybe no added salt?

Meridian Peanut butter is 100% peanuts. Bit more expensive but worth it. 11.6 carbs per 100g so about 1 or 2 per teaspoon. I don't really like the basics stuff as i think the plastic jar taints the taste but maybe that's just me

Great. Thanks. Just ordered some.

Whole Earth is also gorgeous...has no added sugar.....lots of crunchy peanut pieces in it and is 7.4g carb per 100g of which 3.8g is actual sugars. Is available at Morrisons

I generally get Whole Earth peanut butter, their crunchy version, and it doesn't contain any added sugars just naturally occurring. I've eaten it for years, most of them pre-diabetes. At the moment Tesco have it on offer for £2.50 for 454g jars.

PS OOPs @Gezzabelle beat me to it! But that 2 recommendations for you! :p

Tesco's own brand (crunchy) claims 5.4g carbs per 100g so I can justify 3 tsps in my mug cake (to which I'm addicted atm)

I have tried the Meridian Crunchy (11.6g of carbs per 100g, of which 5.9g is sugars - 8.5g fibre) and the Whole Earth Crunchy (7.4g carbs per 100g, of which 3.8g is sugars - 6.7g fibre). I prefer the taste of the Whole Earth. It does have 1.1g of salt per 100g though, while the Meridian has no salt, if that is a consideration for you.
Sainsburys often does the Whole Earth on offer at £2.50 too.

We use Meridian crunchy peanut butter as it's 100% nuts. A lot of the others, even more expensive ones, have added palm oil. I read an article, can't remember where, that said if you have a couple of spoons of peanut butter before a meal your blood sugar goes up less than if you ate it without the peanut butter. Perhaps it's because it's high fat so may lessen the effect of any higher GI foods. I don't eat it, I have enough other sins, but my partner (who is the one who is diabetic) seems to eat it with no problems.

Meridian peanut butter in Tesco is £1.99, but a little while ago they did them for 99p so I stocked up!

Me and the dogs like the Whole Earth as a snack (me usually instead of a "proper" meal) - I have a couple of spoonfuls occasionally and they get a lick of my spoon, or little bit on their own teaspoon - big treat! They actually love my low carb diet and particularly if I'm doing anything with cream I get no peace...:p

I made Peanut Butter cookies with both the Whole Earth and Meridian. The Whole Earth ones were a lot better. I couldn't taste the peanut butter in the cookies I made with Meridian.
Fortunately I got the Meridian cheap when they sold 3 jars for the price of 1 (accidentally/computer glitch?) on Amazon.

That's the only excuse I need. Teaspoon at the ready
