Hi there all,
Wonder if anyone knows of actually where to get a timer for a 3mL reusable insulin pen these days...
I have been using an InsulCheck timer on my Lilly HumaPen Luxura but they don't seem to supply the old InsulCheck timer any more and I cannot find a timer that will fit my 3mL size HumaPens.

If anyone can tell me which 3mL pen can match to a timer I can then go find the right pen and timer...

Thanks, Phil Reed.

Hi @PhilReed , welcome to the forum.

There are the Timesulin caps which work with Lilly's Kwikpen.
Which means you'd have to switch to disposable pens but you can keep the same insulin.

Or you could switch to one of the NovoNordisk insulins, all their penfills can be used with a Novopen 5, Novopen 6 and Novopen Echo.
Those pens have a built in timer, I'm very happy with my Novopen 5.

Hi Antje,
Many thanks, I will have a look at the NovoPen 6 or echo, it looks like I will have to get different cartridges but at least they are 3mL :)
Thanks again.

AH yes, I was just looking into that - the cartridges for the Novo pen are Penfill and looks like I would have to use NovoRapid insulin... At the moment I use HumaLog for short time injections.

I was just asking my Diabetes nurse if I can use NovoRapid at times and still use my old Humalog insulin at other times as I have spare pens in different places just in case I need them.

She is unsure at the moment... Do you think NovoRapid is similar to HumaLog?

Many thanks, Phil.

Ah thats good to know thanks. I would use NovoRapid most of the time but have HumaLog in my car or elsewhere at times... and then of course a nighttime long lasting pen by my bed...

However it would also be simpler to keep my old HumaLog cartridges - so I am looking for a timer that will fit my Lilly HumaPens - the old clip-on InsulCheck was good but I don't seem to be able to get them now..

I used to use NovoRapid until I changed to Fiasp.
I had a little sojourn into Humalog world for a couple of weeks. '
With the caveat that we are all different, I found
- I needed the same dose of insulin
- I had no adverse reaction to any insulin.
- Humalog worked even slower (for me) than NovoRapid.

If it was me, I would use up my Humalog reserves before migrating to NovoRapid as they are slightly different so could be confusing when working out pre bolus times.

What long lasting insulin do you use? NovoNordisk also have slower acting insulins such as Tresiba and Levemir which use the same NovoEcho Pens.

Finally, I would be very reluctant to store insulin in my car as it is susceptible to temperature changes. Both high and low temperatures can "kill" insulin.

Hiya Antje,

Many thanks for that - yes I know to look after insulin in cars - sorry I should have specified my fridge in my campervan haha.

I use Lantus at night but yes could also swap to a Novo type if necessary. I think my doctor would supply both makes though :)

Its a shame I can't get a timer for the Lilly Humapens - I have written to them but had no reply, I could use the KwikPen but would prefer not to have to throw them away...

Thanks again.
