Type 2 Diabetes diagnosed 6 months ago. T2 is often thought of as 'the less serious form of diabetes' which is utter rubbish. Apparently, most people who are diagnosed are said to have been diabetic for 6-10 years prior to diagnosis. Why that should happen I don't know, because a lot of damage can be done to organs during that 'pre-diabetic' stage.
It's all about numbers, statistics and targets and moving goal posts. If they lower the range of 'normal limits' you're diagnosed earlier and if you're diagnosed earlier you get treated earlier.
All I know is this - I was chronically fatigued for over 20 years before diagnosis ... I developed IBS, fibromyalgia, severe asthma, severe allergies, angioedema, anaphylaxis, gastritis, and gynae problems all in ONE MONTH IN ONE YEAR and my diabetes was never detected despite many blood tests in hospital. So I was treated for EACH INDIVIDUAL SYMPTOM. I felt like I had organ failure and told my GP that. I was referred to a Complex Needs physician who decided that I was depressed (who wouldn't be with all that going on) and he decided I needed Cognitive Behaviour Therapy :***: :***: :***: for my depression. OK ... I complied and continued to walk with sticks because my breathing was getting so bad.
I finally told my GP if she didn't get her finger out and find out what the hell was AT THE BOTTOM OF THESE SYMPTOMS, I'd throw myself off the nearest motorway bridge because that's how bloody awful I felt. Chronic fatigue really isn't funny.
She blood tested me several times and then with a very shocked expression told me I was diabetic! Yaayyyyy!!!
Within 2 weeks on Metformin and changing to LCHF diet thanks to this forum, I was alert, awake, energised and BREATHING WITHOUT WHEEZING.
If I knew how I'd campaign for the abolishment of the 'PRE-DIABETIC' or 'BORDERLINE DIABETIC' diagnosis which allows GPs to basically ignore your rising BG levels and this puts lives in danger.
Hope that helps with your studies.
