Periods and ketones

I do not have diabetes
My girlfriend is Type 1 diabetic, and whenever she has periods and she tests her urine, she gets positive ketones and blood, but when theres no blood on the urine stick theres no ketones either.

Is this normal? Because it is making her feel sick

Has she a meter that allows her to test for ketones from a finger prick?? Blood from her period may be causing the urine stick to look like its changed colour I wouldn't really rely on the urine sticks during this time. What are her blood sugars like during her period, I know for me they go slightly off kilter and I have a separate basal rate on my pump for that week.
