To all Type 1 ladies - I would have an urgent question.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 6 years ago when I was 21. I am 27 now, on a therapy that includes 850mg of siofor (glucophag, metmorphin) three times a day, after meal and insulin Levemir (in the morning - the first thing I do when I wake up).
I am able to control my blood sugar levels quite well with that - except when it comes to around my period time!!! (similar thing happens when I have a flu or catch a cold). A day or two before my period my blood sugar levels go up (although I am following the same diet and I am quite disciplined too). To solve that, I increase my insulin units from my usual 18 units to 19, then to 20, then to 21, then to 22...which does help me get better blood sugar during the day but the problem is that then scary HYPOS start during the night. The other night I barely woke up to 1.5 hypo and it was quite scary.
Does anyone out there have similar experience and if yes, did you find a way to solve this?
Thank you!!!

Hi

I had prolems with controlling my Bg around my period, usually random dropping of blood sugar. Many Hypo's, at least 2 a day.

My solution was simply to use a contraceptive method that stopped my period. I know it's not a possibility for everyone and that a lot of people may not want to go down that road.

I use the contraceptive implant and I have no problems with hormone changes affecting my BG.

As to your problem with night hypo's, how high are your readings if you don't increase the insulin? If I was you I would be inclined to just let it run a bit higher, especially after such a scary Hypo.

Hope that something I have said is useful
:)
