First of all on here it says by food under 8mg Carbs per 100mg then people on here say they only eat Burgon Soya and Linseed bread
which is over 27g per 100 grams ?????

My other question and then I think I am getting trained is :-
how long must glucose high readings be before they do you harm and start complications

Re: Perlpexed again and confused

A slice of Bergen is not 100g so can be allowed in a personal carb allowance for the day. Some people can't give up bread and find they can tollerate a slice of bergen. I don't eat bread at all (can't as I'm wheat intollerant), my choice, use the carbs for something else. Everyone is different, only by testing will you find out what is best for you.

Re: Perlpexed again and confused

Yes it is 27g per 100g, but 1 slice is a lot less, I think it works out around 12g but the difference I believe is, it is low GI is it slowly releases Gloucester over 8 hours or something like that, not all people can tolerate this and will get high levels, I can tolerate 1 slice every now and then when I get a really bad craving for bread. Luckily not that often.

Bergen seems to be the most tolerated over the counter bread. It is very nice, but I only have it rarely. It makes me want carbs big time.

Celast, the number of grams of carbs per 100 on a product is just a guide to what may or may not be ok. You need to look at the ACTUAL total of carbs you are eating. So if something was only 5 grams of carbs per 100, but you had 400 grams of it, you will have eaten 20 grams in total (4x5) If you had something that was TEN grams carbs per 100, so looks worse, but you only had 100 grams of it, you would only have had 10 grams of carbs in total. That's how sweeteners like splenda etc work. They have VERY high numbers of carbs per 100, but they are so incredibly light that a teaspon of it only gives you about half a gram of carbs. So think TOTALS, and test to see what TOTAL you can manage.
Hope that helps.

I was told on here NOT to buy food that had more than 8g of carbs per 100 grams,so something does not make sense, but I see where you are coming from, so if Mullar rice was 24g per 100 and only 8grams of rice I would be ok eating just the 8g
just been on my treadmill did 15 mins, also 2 fast dog walks today.

Dont get hung up on the " not more than 8 grams carbs per 100" I'm sure that was meant as a guideline, not a hard and fast rule. Obviously, if something had lots of carbs per 100, and you ate lots, it would be bad. But canderel sweetener, and Splenda, and most sweeteners, which we all use, has 95 grams carbs per 100! Thing is, we use so little of it and it's so light, it doesn't matter. 1 teaspoon of it is just half a gram of carbs! There is nothing magic about the number 8. It's a guide. So aim for food that is low per 100, or only have a little if it's higher, then TEST two hours later. If its more than 7.8, don't eat it again or have less.
