I have been reading these forums for a while now, but this is my first post, so hello to one and all.

I was diagonsed with diabetes last June after being admitted to hospital with a heart attack, my bg level at that time was 33.

To cut a long story short, since then I have been on the usual post heart attack drugs, and for diabetes, gliclazide for a few months, then on metformin, changed to metformin sr (4x500)after a couple of months and now also put on linagliptin.

As I use a wheelchair, and inactive, I am used to looking at what I eat, so have had no problem sticking to a low gi /carb/cal diet.

My tested bg levels since diagnosed have never dropped into single figures (mmol/L)
and last two HbA1c levels have been 9.2 and 9.4.

Anyway, enough of my rambling, time to ask what I posted for.
Has anyone been on linagliptin for any time? and does it do what it says on the tin?

I am asking, because I have been told if this doesn't lower my levels, I most likely have to go on insulin.

Hi Pilgrim22

Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on getting your HbA1c into single figures. Hopefully not will not be too long in falling to 7 and below

Unfortunately, I am not on linagliptin but just a thought. If you have an issue with weight, byetta or bydureon might be better choices (both are exenatide) as long as you have no kidney problems. In less than a year on exenatide, I have lost about 10Kg. I have also managed to almost halve my daily consumption of metformin.

Keep well

Doug

Hi Osidge

Thank you for replying, but weight is one of the few problems I dont have
My newly weighed and calculated BMI (today) is 20.45.

I was put on linagliptin, not because of weight, but because of my ongoing cardiac problems and
also mainly confined to a wheelchair (not connected), I cannot exrecise.
Have only been taking linagliptin for a week and so far, it is too early to tell as bg levels just the same.
