Picked up my pump today

hi all
got given my pump to day Minimed 640G told to play around with it for a week then back next week to start pumping. (at last, been a long tough fight).
 
Great news and have a good play,I did and it will put on the front foot
 
The start of a new positive beginning Phil I was thrown in at the deep end and didn't even get a practice session lol, 2 hours of training and I was sent home with my new pump, when I think back I wondered how I kept my nerve.
 
To be fair Phil, it isn't really that hard and I'm sure you'll get it very quickly! Enjoy it.

I had the same and to be honest after 2 days I was frustrated and just wanted to start. They didn't warn me that I would need to blood test hourly during the night the first night and I had a busy day at work to follow and could not miss it. Be prepared for this and either organise a day off or start over a weekend- they wont like this but you need to be awake. Good luck. it takes a while to get it settled and I hope you have good support from your team.
 
I only tested once in the middle of the night on my first night and for the subsequent week after to get my night time basal steady?!

Phil, I LOVE my 640G pump, best decision I ever made!!

Good luck , I get my pump Aminas vibe on weds and start insulin pumping , nervous but hopeful that things improved ,

I had to commit as part of my funding agreement to test every 2 hours for the first couple of nights and report back to my nurse for her review, was absolutely cream crackered the next couple of days at work lol
 
Hi phil169 how are you getting along with pumping ? I'm loving being on a pump but still erratic readings but no hypos ,

yes its time to update all.

well its been over a month now and things are going well in all. my Average B.G is 6.6 over the last month. insulin is down to 67.700 units that's down from 700 units per day. had a1c done two weeks ago and its down to 91 from 116 +++ so thing are going well (to well the pump nurse thinks), and so i'm booked in to see consultant on the 22 of this month.my carbs have increased to 93 per day on average so still under 100 carbs per day. insulin basal is set at 1.75 per hour and bolus is now down to 2 units for every 10 carbs. have had a couple of cannula problems bent e.t.c but have managed to deal with them, so in all life is very good at the moment. and yes I do love my pump, its given me my life back and the prospect of going back on m.d.i and 12 injections a day now scares me to death at this time.

@ alohanicky2009 keep going it will get better.
 
That is phenomenal Phil to get such excellent results in such a short timescale, well done. It's refreshing to hear how the pump can work for T2s with severe insulin resistance like yourself, it's a shame that NICE do not advocate pumps for T2s as clearly the results are so positive within such a short period of time this is going to have a very positive impact on preventing/delaying future complications.
 
I have to confess that never before has my diabetic mind been so boggled as it was by your initial posting. I've had diabetes for nearly fifty years and your daily dose was roughly equivalent to what I need for two months

I am so glad you are better. And I feel the same about my pump!

had to call pump team to day as have had a real bad day could not get B.G. up above 3.5. so have now dropped back ground insulin to 1.40 per hour over the last couple of days (looking good) lol. yes Minnie45 I hope NICE will take note when I present my self as evidence that pumps do work for type 2 and the money they could save on insulin alone should be a good offset to the cost of a pump. so far I have been told that there are aprox 14% of type 2s with the same problem as me and 6% are on even bigger doses than I was on. and C.C.G.S using NICE as a block to them using pumps. less than 1% have managed to be put on a pump and then only has a test for 6 months. so after xmas I am hoping to convince my CCG that this is the best option and one they need to make concessions for then to get Diabetes uk to take this up and push it as a good cost control for all that are like me. ( well that's the plan anyway.)
