Hi is anyone on Pioglitazone?
I've been diagnosed type 2 for about 4 years now and always been on Metformin which up until the last 6months seemed to be working and i had really good hba1c levels. However, in February my levels had risen pretty dramatically and in the last six months I've been struggling with finding food I can eat that doesn't make me run straight to the toilet! It's got to the point now that I can't eat anything even salad! Without it going straight through me.
So a month ago I asked to be put on the slow release version of Metformin to see if that helps....it hasn't, and it's at the point now where I'm barely eating as it's ruling my life! I try not to go out much as I get so embarrassed having to keep running to the loo and it's literally ruining my life!
So went back to the doctors today and she was gonna fob me off with the usual these things take time but I had decided to take my mum with me this time and she got the Dr to completely take me off metformin. So she's given me Pioglitazone which I've never heard of!
Just wondering if anyone else is on it and how they've got on with it.
Thanks

I was on Pioglitazone for quite a while and it worked well in combination with Metformin.
Unfortunately due to side effects in a related drug, I was told they were stopping using it. This was in 2013.
Since then I have been on Saxigliptin, which did nothing. Victoza liraglutide injections, which made me eat less, but didn't help with my sugar levels and since April 2014 I've been injecting Insulin and still not managed to control my sugar levels.
Baring in mind what they told me I'm surprised they have put you on to Pioglitazone, but I wish I could go back two years and still be on it :(
