are plant steroyls , benecol etc recommended for a diabetic ? if so whats best type please

I tried them (phytosterol complex) as a replacement to my statin for 3 months but they did very little for me and went back on the statin.

tnx ,I was only wondering if there was any advantage to them ,I guess not .

I guess they are like loads of the other "herbs" the effect varies from person to person so I wouldn't rule them out if you are thinking of trying them. I had good results with cinnamon, bitter melon and especially gymnema for bg control but the studies on all of them show they work for some people and not others.

Equally though, if there is no proven benefit, it's difficult to show there is any proven harm, so it's always going to be a gamble. Personally, I go for natural unprocessed foods, seeds, nuts, some veg oil, rather than spreads. Either way, you'll get them.

Yes if I were to do it again I wouldn't bother with the pyhtosterol caps but do it the way Douglas suggests as its probably healthier and far more tasty.

There's nothing stopping you from taking them if you feel you could benefit from them, with the Benecol milk drinks just check the carb content as some of the flavoured ones will be sweetened.

I think (from memory) they can help lower cholesterol by around 10% .......although I may be wrong.

i don't plan on taking them if they are not going to be of much benefit to me really ,tnx

Out of interest where were you looking at to get the idea they might be good Shane?

nothing , just that a lot of people seem to be taking them and they are promoted generally as been beneficial

There was a member who posted last year that they seen a big improvement in their cholesterol levels since drinking the Benecol style drinks, I think they were also eating 2 or 3 cloves of garlic a day (raw) which wouldn't be to some's liking :)
