Hi, as far as I know I am not diabetic but as I am currently about 2 stone overweight and my future career depends on me not being diabetic I decided to take a home meter test to see what my levels actually were.
The average reading in the morning was about 6 or just under.
About 1.5 hrs after lunch it was 7.7 (sugary coffee was taken).
About 3hrs after that it was 5.5
2 hours after dinner (pizza and soup) it was 7.3
I know that the only way to be sure is to go to a doctor but I'm the sort of person that likes to get a likely answer before confirming anything. From what I've read these levels seem ok but could possibly be verging into pre-diabetes territory. I have tested myself throughout the day and the highest reading was 7.7.
I show no symptoms of diabetes and have no family history. I'm 22 by the way which would put diabetes as being unusual if I wasn't overweight. I can assure you that over the last month I have cut down what I eat considerably, I only drink water and exercise for 2 hours a day. As a result the weight is dropping off and I hope this will make diabetes less likely.
I'd really like the nice people of this forum to give me their opinion on what I've said. I don't think the damage is done, YET, but I am well aware that I am or was risking my health. So do these levels look healthy enough and can I just continue to slim down and improve my lifestyle?
Thanks in advance for any comments.
