Type 2
I have been diagnosed as diabetic type 2 on 27th March 2017 my HBA1C was 8. My doctor put me on 500mg met twice a day. After three months my HBA1C was 5.6, then due to some reason i have not taken Met for last seven days but readings are absolutely fine like fasting is 90 and random is never more than 140. I maintained same diet control as i was doing in last three months my weight has reduced from 78 kg to 71 kg. I am wondering why my readings are normal without met? Is my pre-diabetic or does the lifestyle changes enough to keep my BG normal- Please help in clarifying

Metformin is not good at controlling blood sugar directly and that is not its prime purpose anyway. Many members of this site have found that significantly greater control can be achieved by diet so your results are understandable.

Metformin has very little effect on blood glucose levels, whereas diet, and to some extent exercise, can have a huge effect. If you avoid all sugars and sugary things and keep your carb intake low, not only will you lose excess weight, but you should achieve normal HbA1c readings.
Keep up the good work.

Like the others said, Metformin is a little booster that may give you an edge (reducing liver dumps and improving insulin sensitivity) but it doesn't actively lower bloodsugar by itself. Sounds to me like your change in diet (and possible exercise regime) is kicking diabetes' butt! :) Good job!
