I don't know where to start to be honest!?
I've not got a mother or father with Diabetes but my grandfather (who is nearly 80) has diabetes but isn't getting any insulin, as it is being managed via lifestyle/diet. My great grandmother, apparently had diabetes. My uncle told me.

Anyway, I've been having abnormal Liver Function tests since I was 25 years old (I've just turned 30) my doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about and that she wouldn't send me for more tests because it wouldn't be anything to worry about because I was far too young! Whether that's good practice or no? Basically my lire produces too much Billirubin.
I've been feeling not well for quite some time now, tired without even doing anything as such. The tiredness effects me every single day! I get told I look tired, drained and I'll, my mum is so complimentative :-( it setting me down! Anyway I've had pneumonia and I have asthma too so I was on steroids for 10 days and I can't kick away colds or infections easily, never have done. Still feeling quite poorly I went to see my doctor who ran a series of blood tests and again results of abnormal liver function and a blood glucose on fasting of 7.4, no I don't know whether I am barking up the wrong tree but is that high for a fasting blood specimen. I am worried quite in the dark on diabetes, I don't know what is normal what isn't. So I am reading up just in case I have for diabetes. I've gone for more blood tests again today but everything does add up now, frequent urination, extreme tiredness, dry flaky skin, mood swings, depressed mode some days, dizziness, and 2 weeks ago I had a near fainting attack where I almost fainted but it was where my heart skipped a beat and then had to beat twice to get the Rythmn goin again, in other words palpitations. What doesn't make me a candidate, (SO I HAVE BEEN TOLD) is I am not over weight, I have very low blood pressure, always have done and I frequently worked-out up until 7 months ago. I had to stop because I get tingly and numbness in my hand and tingling sensation up my arms so I have been under investigation for that and sometimes it is numb for some parts of the day.

I really am sorry if this post has gone on a little I am just confused, a bit worried and wondered if you could she's some light on whether you think this could be diabetes? I do understand you're not doctors but my doctor has just said it's not readings of a diabetic so don't worry but we need to do more blood tests-which I've had today.

Once again, thank you in advance for any of your advice/information

Hi Lou and welcome to the forum.

A fasting blood glucose level of 7.4 is quite high but not outrageously so, was it taken while you were taking the steroids as Prednisolone does raise blood glucose levels significantly so if you were taking them or had just finished the course then it would be quite normal for your blood glucose to be a little higher than normal.

If you are concerned you really need to speak with your doctor again as no one hear can diagnose you as we are not medically trained and besides that we do not know anything of your medical history.

Good luck and try not to stress about what may never happen

Hi Lou,

Some people with type 1 start out this way - discounted because they are thin and their sugars aren't quite yet sky high. However, many people with type 2 are not overweight either! It is a risk factor but is not necessary.

There are also other types, such as LADA which is a slow-onset version of Type 1.

Some GPs are not properly trained in recognising the different cases. But diabetes does sound consistent with your symptoms! If you are concerned, try geting a second opinion or going to the hospital. You can also buy a glucometer (or maybe your grandfather has one?) if you want to investigate for yourself.

Hi, thank you both for your replies

I wasn't on predislone when I had the blood tests, it was about a week prior to the blood tests that I had finished.

I find it's always after breakfast I feel a little tired then after lunch I really do want to sleep. Just generally feel like rubbish all the time but have always put it down to having two children, a working mum and a house to clean and tidy, housework etc just life!!
I am worried but like you quite rightly said I 'could' be worrying over something that may never happen!?

Don't be alarmed, we still don't know what's behind it, but have a read of the symptoms here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperglycemia

I count you having 7 of the symptoms on the list. I would advise you go back to your doctor or get a second opinion soon. If it is diabetes you could be feeling a lot better as soon as treatment starts!

Lou. A blood reading of 7. 5 I would say is a diabetic reading. However im no doctor. You seem to have the symtoms.your story seems to demonstrate your doctor is all over the place.no wonder you are unhappy at not getting a posative. Diagnosis.on the other hand your other complaints may be causing the problem.suggest you get a second opinion. A chemist like Loyds or Boots. somtimes do tests with a meter.or as suggested get your grandad to let you use his meter
