Please help getting vastly different readings from one hand to other

Hi everyone,

I was getting a bit sore on my left hand from always pricking my finger so decided to do my right and got a reading of 27.1!
When I did the left one it was 9.1. Retested right hand a minute later and it was 13.1. What does this mean, is my meter working at all?

Help appreciated!!

Wash both hands and use a fresh lancet, then try again.
Mine has varied a little but not that much.

Is it possible that you might have had some food or sugar stuck on the fingers of your right hand? You might want to wash your hands and measure again.

I see that @ickihun has beaten me to it. Great minds think alike.
 
Yes, I agree. A contaminated finger is most likely the cause - even if you washed your hands there could have been some soap left on. Also, sometimes there are contaminated strips in the tubs/packets, either human error, or something else caused it. Any unexpected reading well outside the range you were expecting (either higher or lower) should be re-tested.

Additionally, our blood races round our bodies at lightening speed, so in the space of a second or two there is different blood in the capillaries. Also, our red blood cells are tiny, and each single cell is likely to carry a different amount of glucose. So nothing is perfect I'm afraid.
