Hi, here to get some info as my boyfriend has just the other day been diagnosed with Type 1.
We think he may have had it a year undiagnosed..
He has very high blood sugar levels. At initial testing at the clinic he was at 23 when it should be around 7.
In these couple of days it has fluctuated from 16 in the morning to high 20s, and once to 30s as he had a sweetened bagel, and realised afterwards he shouldn't have had.
He's now being 'weened' into insulin - trial and error period basically.
His blood sugar levels are still very high, and fluctuate when he eats.
Will they go down?
It's worth mentioning he did have ketones but they're now in minus numbers after the insulin.
Doctors haven't specified about how his blood sugar should fluctuate or when it should go down... They say it will with time, and when they know how much insulin he should take.
He was diagnosed on Tuesday, May 6th. So very new to diabetes but probably had it undiagnosed for a while!
Anyone in a similar position?

Hi,

I have spotted your other threads on this subject in "newly diagnosed" & "T1D" sections, so I wouldn't technically want to go "off topic"..

Bearing in mind the title of this section.. ;)

Do you mind if I ask a question...? Why doesn't your boyfriend log in & ask for himself..??

Hiya, I was confused by the site so posted anywhere in the hope I would get some replies fairly quickly :)
As I can't delete posts it looks a little silly to have the same question asked in different places, but ah well!
I thought I'd create an account as he is a bit overwhelmed with getting used to his new routines etc, but yes I now hope to delete this account as I have the info I need, and he will probably make an account at some point :)

Fair comment.. I can appreciate the guy needs his own time to get his head round it all..

Once the blood sugars, diet & doses are sorted out.. I feel you may be back asking about hypoglycaemia or "hypos" the low sugar..
That is not only interesting for the actual diabetic, but can be disconcerting to the onlooker...!

Good luck.! ;)
