I was diagnosed on 10th December with suspected T1 by the Diabetic Nurse at my surgery, and this was changed to T2 on the 14th December by the hospital team who requested GAD and urine C peptide tests just to be sure. I have been on 4 metformin/day for a week now, working up from 1, no insulin since 30th December (I was only on 5 units twice a day) when the C peptide result came back that I had more than enough insulin so definitely not T1 (7.52 I think and creatinine ratio 0.79)
HOWEVER my GAD results have now just come through on Patients Know Best (oh the irony):
GAD 220.8 u/ml. should be <5
ZnT8Ab 895.6 u/ml should be <10
IA2Ab 1664.1 u/ml should be <7.5
Obviously the doctors and hospital unit are now closed, and fortunately I have a blood test booked tomorrow morning and will see who I can speak to then.
But, Oh My God! Those figures are scaring the life out of me. My pre and post prandial BG has not been over 6.5 since Christmas, my weight has only dropped 1.5kg since diagnosis (6 weeks) but with healthy eating and a load more exercise that's not to be unexpected and I was losing that in a week when eating all the bad/nice things and not exercising at all.
I have lost 20kg, from 80 to 60kg in 5 months, I'm 51 and my HbA1c was 129.5 mmol/mol 14% at diagnosis with only weight loss, thirst and more frequent urination symptoms, no other illnesses or ailments.
Has anyone had anything similar??? I know you guys are not going to diagnose me, but I have no idea if this is typical T1 or LADA levels or is my pancreas just !@£$ed
. I'd just got my head round dealing with T2, and now I am back to being a complete mess and not knowing what I am meant to do.
