Hi I was diagnosed last week and I'm slowly getting my head round it all. My weakness has always been soft drinks, I have been on zero sugar drinks for 5 weeks now and feel pretty good and have lost weight. However I'm concerned they may not be as healthy as I first thought. Any help on this topic is greatly affecting

Some say yes some say no - I personally do drink them though usually only a small glass with meals, if your feeling ok, your numbers are good and your happy with your weight loss enjoying a sugar free drink now and then should be ok - I'm on Tesco soda water with lime at the moment - not sweet but very refreshing

Yes, fiddly. So the fizzy drinks are sweetened with different artificial sweeteners. If one gives massive doses of these to a rat, thet get problems. There is one observational study that showed that folk on artificial sweeteners were overweight, but it is more likely that they were overweight, hence the artificial sweeteners, rather than the othe way around. And one should also compare the artificial sweetener to the effect of having real sugary fizz or lots of pure fruit juice.

So, I would mix my artificial sweeteners ie use several different fizzy drinks each day instead of a lot of one; they all state the artificial sweetener on the label.
Well done with the weight loss and feeling better
Best wishes

Yes, do check the ingredients and the labels. Some zero sugar fruit drinks still have carbs because of the fruit content, but more importantly is the type of sweeteners used. You would need to Google round to see if they may cause problems.
