Pork Insulin & Hypo's

My consultant is reluctant to put me back onto short acting Pork insulin , after 4 years of being on "human" as he is worried i will hypo often, does anyone know if this is true ? or why it might have this effect.

I'll give you my experience when I was growing up on animal insulin:

I used to suffer hypos that I didnt become aware of during the night and occassionally during the day. I often ended up in hospital and sometimes my folks were met with a struggle to pin me down and load me up with glucose. When it got so bad, they just called for an ambulance.

I have never faced this on human insulin. Could've been partly to do with adolescence.

I looked into going back onto animal recently in my pump but decided against it as a) it acts too slowly for my lifestyle and b) I really couldnt risk hypos like that again, living alone.

I dont know the reason why you are considering a change but I moved from Novorapid to Apidra and on the whole find it much more stable and quicker acting that Novo and Humalog.
