Porridge???????

I'm having real problems with my morning levels and am very confused. I have porridge for breakfast every morning and my levels afterwards are so inconsistent.

This morning i woke up and I was 6.5, i had a bowl of porridge and 2 units of insulin, 2 hours later it was 7.9 but then an hour later i felt really funny so tested again and it had dropped to 4.1.

The hospital suggested not taking any insulin with breakfast, i tried that yesterday and 2 hours after breakfast it was 9.3, far too high.

Has anybody else had similar problems? If so i would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Hi carb Foods
I am lucky with porridge in that my A**a premium rolled oats do not give me too much of a post 2hour BG high, although my "Oatmeal of Alford" medium oatmeal does give me more of a spike so "try and test" is the order of the day. Good thing that one porridge does work for me as I would find it very hard to cope with morning without it to fill me up 'til lunch!

SJay, are you putting anything on your porridge, eg fruit, milk, cream, low-sugar jam etc?
Do you vary what you put on there? Coz that could be making a difference.
Also, how are you making it - are you varying how much milk you use ? Don't forget milk has carbs in. Are you using the same amount and kinds of oats? Some absorb more milk than others.

the only other thing that occurred to me is that 2 units of insulin for a bowl of porridge is pretty low - if you can get hypo on that I wonder if your body is still producing a little insulin of its own? That could be messing things around, especially if it is doing it intermittently. How recently were you diagnosed, could you be entering a 'honeymoon' period? (some type 1s have a short time where they actually come off insulin as their pancreases have a last gasp of life before packing it in.)
