Porridge

I have hot oat cereal mixed with oat bran and flax seed and whole milk/water for breakfast most weekdays and find that me BS levels are OK.

There's no way of knowing without testing. There might have been a double peek with 1 hour being very high.
That would be my gut feeling speaking from experience with bread and rice though I go far higher. Haven't tried porridge oats for fear of same effect. I think the fat in cream can slow it down but bearing in mind that it will turn into sugar as soon as it hits your stomach which is then released into your blood stream I guess the spike is not very surprising. How about scrambled eggs made with cream with bits of fried bacon instead? Or berries mixed with Greek yoghurt and nuts or whipped cream? Hugsx

Daddys1 no problem. Any help is useful

Scandi. I have eggs every morning and have berries and cream (I found yoghurt was giving me heartburn) every day so was thinking if porridge was ok I would have another option and it would be good for my cholesterol.

Thanks for all the porridge/oats suggestions I will have a look at them all in more detail.

Anyway...back to my porridge experiment

I had 1/2 cup of porridge this morning made with water and salt. I added blackberries, seeds and cream.

My fasting bg was 5.4 this morning and that was before I ate the porridge

At 1 hour my bg was 5.8
At 2 hours it was 4.8
At 2 1/2 hours it was 5.5

At 2 hours I was feeling hungry and a bit wobbly so only waited another 1/2 hour before I had my lunch so the increase at 2 1/2 hours could have been liver dump

I think another test is needed to be sure but a smaller portion looks promising.
