hi diabetes forum first post here so please be nice :D:D:D:D

I have been on Actos to manage my diabetes for 3 years. It's done wonders for me and really helped to regain control. I was talking to my dad recently and he was saying how actos is used to prevent AlzheimerS. Wohoo as it runs in my family tree. Until then, I didn't know actos was used to prevent alzheimers. I got researching and have also read how metformin can prevent cancer. Its crazy these drugs can control diabetes and so much more

Has anyone else heard about this kind of thing from diabetic medicines beforE?>

hi, i don't know the drug as i'm diet controlled, have a fear of Alzheimer's so would beg for them if they say it does for sure :)

Actos has been banned in several countries and the FDA have issued warnings.

The medication, which has been on the market since 1999, has been linked to an 83 percent higher risk of bladder cancer. It has also been linked to other serious side effects such as liver failure and bone fractures

Trilas are still needed to see if it can be used to stave off symptoms of Alzheimer's.

(Reuters) - A large German study is the latest clinical trial to suggest that a cheap generic treatment for diabetes can stave off symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, although conclusive proof from a more formal trial could be about five years away.

I have never experienced cancer (and god forbid I ever do) but from what I have read over the past year especially on this site; their are links to the drug I use, metformin and reducing my risk of cancer.

Similar to Juicylucy (great name btw); i have family members who have had cancer previously so it is in the family. I know you cant take the results of a couple of news articles or journals but im living in hope that metformin will help me to prevent cancer as I have seen the devestation it can cause.

P.S if your interested; i read this story http://www.diabetes.co.uk/news/2012...betes-drug-lowering-cancer-risk-95195866.html

I have type 2 and have been on Metformin for over 40 years now but unfortunately it hasn't prevented me from getting cancer....... I was diagnosed in 2005 as having Bladder Cancer and have had several operations to remove recurring tumours........I am now having treatment with a "drug" called BCG which will hopefully keep the cancer in remission.
Everyone is different ....so what helps one may not help another.......but good luck to the ones that it does help against Cancer.
Pensionista Mike.
