Hi all, anybody that has read any of my posts will notice I've been worried about my bs levels, last night 25.9, I have changed my diet a little over the last few days, I'm on Glycazide half morning half evening, plus Linagliptine one a day, I have checked this morning post breakfast 14.8, is the medication kicking in, have the slight changes diet helped, will go on low carb soon, please please tell me I'm going in the right direction .

Yes that's better but you are still not within range so probably more Gliclazide soon. How long after eating did you test. You would do this after two hours of your meal.

Low carb is certainly the right direction and if you commit to it you have a good chance to be able to come off the gliclazide (with doctors approval of course) Diet is always a preferable method to control over meds but some of us need meds even when the diet is sorted out properly. Is there some reason you are waiting to go on LCHF? That is not a judgement just an honest question. Your levels are dangerously high and you need to take control now. Meds alone will not control your diabetes.

Hi chalup, erm hmmm, the only reason I'm not starting low carb now, is I'm going on holiday for a couple of weeks, and will be eating out a lot, not a very good excuse I know, but having to explain every time that I don't want potatoes or chips, just meat and veg or salad will drive me bonkers, so when I get back I will be in control of my food intake, and believe me when I say I'll do it I definitely will.

Hi asparagus,
I didn't check before breakfast, just around 2 hours later, I know it's still high, but a vast improvement on the mid 20's, and next time I check hoping it's continuing its downward spiral.

but having to explain every time that I don't want potatoes or chips, just meat and veg or salad will drive me bonkers

It doesn't have to, I've been doing it for 4 years without any problems at all. I have even got restaurants to take food back because they've put it on my plate when I specifically asked not to have it. You are in charge, it's your health that matters, not them.

Thanks David, I will ask for no carbs on my plate, I just feel that I'm being a nuisance, but it is my health after all.
Regards Jeff.

Hi Fox
I am on my last day of a 2 week all inclusive holiday in Mexico & I was worried about the food & temptation but it has been fine. The hotel has been great & adapted meals for me with no issues at all.

Think these days restaurants take health problems seriously ... U just need to be confident to ask

Good luck

Hi Jeff,

it is also your money, that's the only reason why I feel comfortable asking for exactly what I want. Eating out isn't exactly cheap in the first place. I ask politely and there's no problems, if questions are asked I just say it will make me very ill, no further questions then.

Enjoy your holiday, somebody else doing the cooking is my idea of heaven. LOL

I agree with David. You do not need to explain your dietary choices or the reasons for them to the waiter. Lots of people out there with coeliac or other dietary restrictions. They have seen it all. Enjoy your holiday, I wish I was going on one :p

Oh, and don't ask for no carbs as a lot of people have no idea what a carb is. Just say no toast or can I have extra veg instead of the potato.

Hi chalup,
Thanks for your advice, I don't like making a fuss, but it is my own diabetes, and long term destiny, so I shouldn't put off what I can do now, thanks will enjoy the holiday, and my bs is still decreasing down to 12.8 as of an hour ago, from this afternoons 14.9, a far cry from 25.9 two days ago, kept carbs low so it's definitely working alongside new meds kicking in.
Regards Jeff

Well done and keep it up. After a few weeks it will seem like old hat. Just stick with the crazy forum crew and you will be fine.

If you eat out you are buying a service and you should be entitled to specify what you want and have to pay for. Unless they're real bloody minded so-and-sos, pleasing customers should be the aim, not the other way round!

Coeliacs, people with lactose intolerance, or nut allergies, etc, need to take great care over what they eat, and our diabetic "carbohydrate intolerance" is no different (so just quote that at them maybe??) - they hopefully won't want to be sued or have the possibility of having killed you off! :D:D
