Possible foot fracture related to diabetes?

About a week ago the side of my foot started hurting and a hard bony lump appeared, went to see the GP as it hurts and cannot wear many shoes. He sent me for an X-ray on the side of the foot and metatarsals and put query pathological fracture on the forms, he has also referred me to the podiatry department. Are fractures a common type 1 complication? I’ve been type 1 for 11 yrs

As far as I know, fractures aren't a common complication. However, Charcot foot is a known complication of diabetes, so fractures in the foot could be a complication of diabetes.
That said, it's well possible to break one of the bones in the foot for everyone, diabetic or not, even without apparent trauma. My non diabetic friend managed to break one of those bones while dancing at 25 years old, and only found out the next day.
