Hi I am so dissapointed with my post breakfast reading this morning. I have been eating 2 weetabix each day for my breakfast and have been noticing a slight rise in my readings 2 hours afterwards (from 6.9 before to 7.1 after), thinking I will be good today and have only 1 weetabix, 1 apple and a small coffee the jump in my readings was even higher pre breakfast (5.9) 2 hours post breakfast (8.8). Can anyone explain this to me. Thanks in advance.

Hello kerryjohnson43, most lchf posters find that cereals spike their bs's ,plus apples are quite high in sugars, have a look on here at the what have you eaten today section for alternatives, personally i eat egg and bacon with coffee and fresh cream , or when i have the time i make a sort of bread with almond flour coconut flour and baking powder ,hope you find something nice .plus try fresh berries like raspberries or kiwi fruits with cream , clive

Thanks Clivethe drive for your reply I am a bit worried about the high fat part as I have to lose 6 stone. I will take a look at alternative breakfasts. Thanks again.

There is nothing sinister about fat. Fat won't stop you losing weight. It's calorific, yes indeed, but it's filling and it doesn't raise your BG. It's safe. Eat until you are full, then stop. Repeat when needed.

If you want to lose weight it's the carbs you want to avoid.

The good thing is you have a meter and you are using it so you can at least experiment with different foods. You should definately have a good look at LCHF as it is good for lowering your BS and losing weight.

And just to emphasize...i have lost 5 st on the lchf regime so i know it works

if memory serves me well enough - 2 wheetabix is about 25g so 12-13g per 'biscuit', a medium apple is ~20g. Guess that explains it.

it's just a case of finding what works for you. I don't advocate any particular diet for diabetes..... and I'm pretty sure this site isn't about that either. But what I have noticed is what someone says works for them may not work for me at all. When I eat carbs I prefer grain carb simply because using veggie or fruit carbs just makes me hypo quite easily. My levels tend to stay more level if I eat low GI grains. If I eat veggie carbs I will mix it with a grain carb usually. Also the high fat idea works well for some and not others. I tried that myself for a while and had a terrible time on it... my ibs doesn't like high fat for starters. Also I got a lot of headaches which is hardly beneficial when I suffer migraines as well. Plus what I found is when I'd get my cholesterol checked it was sky high and I'd get told off as heart disease runs in my family. So do what is best for you. Give things a try and see how they work out. If it doesn't work, try something different... it's all part of the journey. :)
