I was diagnosed as diabetic last September. I had my first batch of blood results last week. I came out with flying colours. I fully appreciate that I am really fortunate in that I was diagnosed early with low bs levels. I have spent HOURS even DAYS/MONTHS on this site digesting SO much conflicting information but have been able to read it all and apply what I thought was important to me. It worked.
When I first logged on I was met with an absolute wall of facts/science that meant absolutely nothing to me at the time. I was just SO utterly and completely confused. Lets face it, if you need to log on to the internet to find something out, you do not expect to find so much conflicting information to start with when you are a complete ignoramous on the subject
All I am trying to say is that, it knocks you for 6 even 12 when you are diagnosed. The rest of your life just sort of pales into insignificance. It just takes over your mind but STICK with this site, you can not afford to be without it. Think positive. I have and it's worked so far.
Best wishes to you all.

Thanks ,Broads.I'll so glad you stayed and that you have found a way of controlling your diabetes that suits you.
Because this is a Community of individuals with differing needs and experiences there will always be conflicting stories etc but you did the right thing by choosing what would work for you.
Congratulations on the flying colours! there's nothing feels quite like it when that happens.

Well done broads!
No need to thank us. You did the hard part in seperating the wheat from the chaff.

All the best,

fergus

Broads, just as a matter of interest, what regime is working for you?
Like you, I read that some things are good on one thread and not so good on another, fruit being my bugbear. I love them all!
I stick to low carbs but have only just seen the item about eating a cheese/ham on Ryvita at night before bed, and so on.
There is almost too much advice!

Rubik
I fully agree with you, far too confusing.
I seldom eat rice, potatoes, bread, cereals or pasta, have them as an occasional treat. I was eating quite a lot of fruit not realising that it wasn't particularly good for me. I now have a small portion almost every day, don't have bananas though. I eat tons of veg but only small amounts of roots like carrots, swede etc. Loads of salad plus nuts, cheese, meats, chicken, turkey, fish. Home made soup with oatcakes or Rivita. There must be other foods that I eat but can't think of them at the mo. it is hard sometimes as I have to cook for hubby as well and it's not right to deprive him of foods that I can't have.
I tried eating some protein before bed to see if it might lower my morning BS but it didn't.
The one thing I really feel has helped is going out for long, energetic walks. I do this about five times a week for between 1 1/4 to over two hours. I bought a pedometer which I use, it spurs me on to beat the number of steps of previous walks. Fortunately I have the time for walking. Also essential is my best walking companion, my I pod.
Sorry a bit garbled.
Best wishes

I agree with broads, walking really helps.
