Hi guys,
I'm currently on a list to have my leg amputated!! .
I've had multiple operations on my right foot and all my toes off .
Now there's nothing they can do and I'm walking on the side of my foot and have a massive ulcer.
My question is how do you cope with a lower limb amputation as I'm all over the place with this

I just want quality of life for my family, I've never been able to take my son swimming as I've had ulcers ever since my son was born!!
And were off on holiday soon so after that it's off !!

Hi firstly sorry to hear about your problems I can definitely relate, one thing I have to say from the outset is , yes it is devastating to hear you are going to lose your leg , but , it’s definitely not the end of the world. You have already stated that you want quality of life , so you seem positive and that is essential. I should imagine that you struggle to walk your in pain etc etc . This will eventually go away but it will not happen over night. It’s all about taking things gently , it really is small steps at first in every way, but with perseverance and a positive attitude anything you want is achievable. As with everything there will be good and bad days and setting yourself and achieving wee “ goals” will help the good days overtake the bad . The prosthetics department i use are excellent and help me achieve anything I want , I have no reason to doubt yours will be the same , should you require counselling etc that too is available , financially you should qualify for PIP if you not getting it already, which would enable you to get a vehicle on the Motobility scheme a definite plus as far as independence is concerned . initially thee will be a lot for you to take in and it can be daunting so if you ever feel your a bit overwhelmed or are just having a bad day please please please don’t hesitate to contact me for any advice or just someone to have a wee blether ( sorry I mean chat)to , cos I can guarantee any problems you come across I will have too , try and stay positive it really does help so much , good luck and stay in touch

Thank you so much for the reply, I am staying positive and trying to take it all in. I've been measured for a wheelchair and ramps are being put around my house soon.
I just needed to get someone else's take on it all really. I will keep in touch thanks.
I've got lots of appointments coming up so fingers crossed

Thank you all for your support
