Pre- Diabetes, One Month On..

So, just to re-cap, I had a shock diagnosis of pre-diabetes when I picked up my Cholesterol test results just over a month ago, with a Hba1c of 42 mmol/mol.
I say shock as I had always eaten a healthy diet, exercised, wasn't over weight.
After my initial post on here and following the advice given, I purchased a blood glucose meter, tweaked my healthy diet, for a more diabetes friendly one, ditched the skimmed milk, pulses etc.
So, my monthly average blood glucose are as follows:

Fasting 5.8
Two hours after meals 6.1
Fasting between lunch / pre-evening meal 5.5

So my question is, do you think it is likely that my pre-fasting will ever get below 5.8 which is obviously at the top end of the normal healthy guidelines, or are some people just pre-disposed to high blood sugars in the morning?
I have read about liver dump theory, is that always likely to be the case?

Hello, not a doctor and only personal opinion, yes high end normal but ultimately, its "normal", you seem to have achieved by adjusting your lifestyle diet from an already healthy diet, hopefully speaks volumes , take a peep at www.dietdoctor.com for some ideas, more exercise, you may be surprised 5.8 may come down further? it seems you have had a wake up call, done something about it, thats absolutely fantastic, you have taken charge of your body, fingers crossed you can take further control, best to think positive of better

Fasting always have higher, I drink four glasses of water, do a brisk walk 10 mins on the tread, or road, wait 15 mins and I find good results every time, it works for my body, but then that may not work for all, just a friendly tip. It seems many people out there have this issue with Fasting levels high dawn phenomenon I think its supposedly referred to. I also drink cider vineger and take few walnuts before going to bed this seems to keep numbers normal normal normal too?

good luck

Did you take any other tests?

5.8 mmol fasting are high, but not high enough to classify as pre-diabetic. Pre-diabetic range are fasting between 6.0-6.9 mmol.

6.1 mmol after 2 hours are also very good. Impaired glucose tolerance are 7.8 to 11.1 mmol after 2 hour OGTT.

To me you sound normal and healthy. Not wanting to make you confused or doubtful, but I have had a few bad experience with health professionals that do not know s*** about diabetes. Once I had to go to a substitute (because my gp was sick), I had an inflammation and this substitute wanted me to take cortisol. I tried to tell him I shouldn’t be on cortisol because I suffer with high blood sugar spikes, this substitute meant it was completely normal that my blood sugar could spike to 15 mmol or higher. He meant it wasn’t of any concern before I started to get blood sugar in the 30s range. My point is, there is plenty of medical proffesionals out there that do not know enough about diabetes.

And in all humbleness I would dare to say that a gp don’t have enough education or knowledge about diabetes if he/she thinks blood sugar in the 5-6 range are pre-diabetic. I would have been happy if could keep such good reading :)

Of course, if you took other tests, or have symptoms I might be wrong here. But 5.8 fasting and 6.1 after 2 hour alone does not sound pre-diabetic to me :)

Sorry My headline was in reference to my HbA1c of 42 so just in the prediabetes guidelines, and I was trying to keep my blood sugars in the normal range, my apologies for the confusion.

In all honesty my doctor was pretty good, we agreed to retest in 6 months for both HbA1c and cholesterol, so it should be an interesting trial, in all honesty, in the last month I have never eaten so healthily.
Lets hope I can keep it up!

Thank you!
I'm also using cider vinegar as a salad dressing each day.
Interestingly my blood glucose levels we up by 1 today for no good reason, same diet, My only explanation is that I have been stressed with a late delivery at work?!

Add virgin olive oil to the vinegar, some black pepper for salad dressing, makes it more tasty too, even drizzled over veggies.
