Hi I am new on here but been reading for a couple of weeks as I have been feeling really unwell.
I went to the docs with burning feet at night and flu like symptoms aching muscles and weight loss. The minute I got out of there I changed my diet cutting out all sugar.
I couldnt get in for blood tests for 9 days after seeing doc because of easter etc but started to cut out all sugar etc completely before the tests.
I did feel somewhat better initially but still ill.
Got the blood tests done and did the fasting BGT which came back at 6.2 (impaired.) despite cutting the sugar.
I was sent for the OGTT on friday and await the results this week.
I have cut out loads of carbs since reading your forum which at first didnt realize affected blood sugars so much.
I am into my fourth week nearly of eating healthy maybe 2 weeks of cutting real down on the carbs too but I still feel lousy.
Two to two and a half hours after I have eaten my feet start burning like mad. that at first was just at night. dry mouth and hot for a while then muscle ache etc.
I have tingling too and also in one arm and shoulder.
my muscles ache and other strange symptoms ,I am not tired as in sleeping a lot but tired as in exhausted when I do anything.
I know I need to come back on here when I get the 2nd lot of results but if i am prediabetic how long does it take to get the sugars down by diet only?
When will i start to feel better?
my feet have bothered me the most I can see them changing colour, which makes me anxious, and probably making me worse.
I am not overweight and was 8.1/2 stone now eight and have an underactive thyroid and on thyroxine.
I feel as though my meds are also not getting into my system right since i have been ill.
can sugars affect thyroid or how the meds work?
Sorry so many questions but feeling bewildered and want to do the best for myself.
Even though I am doing my best and taken loads of notes from here still keep making mistakes with loads of foods even though I have cut out pasta rice eat the lowest carb brown bread reduced potatoes cut out porridge and cereals still seem to feel ill.
Am i over worrying it and getting stressed.
I dont want to lose anymore weight as I look really thin now and eight stone is well thin enough for me could do with putting some on :(

Hello :)

It sounds like you are on the right track and have noted well the various threads of advice on here however this is not something that will quickly disappear and will require time and patience. It will take quite a while for your BG levels to go down sufficiently for you to feel better and in particular your feelings of exhaustion to gradually go away but you should note a fairly swift change in the direction of your numbers if you are indeed cutting out the carbs sufficiently. I no longer eat any starchy carbs like bread, potatoes, porridge, pasta, rice or cereal products of any kind.
The mental fog is lifting and my BG levels are pretty good which has helped me feel much better but it has taken almost 6 months for the exhaustion to start fading and I still have no staying power - as yet. Getting stressed will NOT help but will increase your numbers! Be patient!!

There are a fair few of us on the forum who neither want nor need to lose any weight and some even want to put some on ideally. Cut out the carbs as much as you can using celeriac, swede and cauliflower to replace things like potato and rice as the BG level is your priority and only when your numbers are moving downwards start to increase foods like cheese, cream, nuts and seeds which will help you to retain your weight. It takes a while to work out the right balance for you but experiment and test, test, test.
