Pre diabetic in need of advice

Hello everyone! I have been reading your posts and have gleened lots of helpful info to hopefully prevent my condition developing into diabetes.

I had gestational diabetes during my prenancy 14 months ago. I was told after giving birth that my fasting glucose indicated that my diabetes had resolved. However I tested myself and still found that my 2hr blood sugar readings ranged up to about 11.2 (although its usually between 7.0 - 9.0 if I had a moderate carb meal ie spaghetti bolognese or jacket potato and cheese). My doctor insisted my test meter was wrong although I was allowed to have another fasting glucose test which was also ok.

I continued happily until a few months ago when I bought a new meter just to re- assure myself and found that I was still getting highish readings after carbs although my morning reading before breakfast is usually about 5.0. Since then I drastically cut down my portions of carbs (3 small new potatoes or 1 tbsp pasta, not too much fruit and no biscuits etc) I contacted a diabetic nurse who allowed me to have a HBA1C, this was 5.5. I was told I didn't have a problem and that I should continue with my yearly fasting glucose until there was a problem. My surgery do not do oral glucose tests.

The trouble is that I am losing weight, now 8st3lb and 5ft 7" ( I have never been above 9st 7lb except when pregnant) and although I try to eat something every 2hrs that does not push my glucose over 6.5, I am constantly hungry. Sorry to ramble on! Any advice would be appreciated.
