Hi
I am new to the group.
I have a slow rising HbA1c of 45 and doing all I can to control my diet and exercise.
My brother has LADA, diagnosed at 57 and at 58 I was told I was pre diabetic.
Because of my brother my doctor had tests GAD and Serum Zinc Transporter 8 abs cone for me and both gave positive reading of around 2000.

I am now told to see my diabetic nurse again and just to be told to keep on with my diet and exercise.
I have bad and good days with readings and some days they can be great and some as low a 3.9 or upt to over 13.8

Should I just be coasting along like this or should I be seeing a specialist by now?
If someone can help me it would be great as I am getting very frustrated
Thanks

You are in the strange position of being in a sort of limbo. But for your brothers condition, you would have been diagnosed as type 2. And later on as the honeymoon period petered out, and your sugar levels really went haywire, further investigation would have shown LADA.
Whilst your Pancreas is still producing sufficient Insulin, treatment is much more tricky, but i'll leave that to our LADA members, who have far more knowledge than i do.
3.9 is actually a normal level, that many many people can see and much lower, until their liver kicks out some Glucose to normalise things.
The 13.9 could have been due to what was eaten, if you could give an idea of the sort of meals you have, it may show ways of improving things in the short term.
As far as i'm aware you basically need to live as though you were type 2, until the Pancreas insufficiency reaches the point where Insulin will become necessary. But again our LADA bretheren will know more than me.

Thanks for this, any feedback is good to hear. And it was quite reassuring.
Any LADA bretheren out there who are able to give me their insight?
