pre diabetic

Hi i was told by my gp i am pre diabetic and also i only have one kidney due to kidney cancer , I suffer with night sweats and doc said it was the medication i am on, I stopped the medication and the night sweats continued i bought a glucose checker because my symptoms were similar to having low blood glucose, The first test i did late afternoon came back as 9.9 mmo/l so i waited a couple of hours it was down to 5.9 i went to bed had more night sweats and in the morning took my glucose check at 0700 before eating or drinking anything and the reading was 1.4mmo/l and an hour later after coffee 1.7mmo/l so had a can of regular coca cola and a sandwich and at 1030 my glucose level was 8.6mmo/l , Now i am far from an expert because this is all new to me but something does not seem right as my readings are all over the place, should i ring the doctor monday?

I take it your glucose meter is new hence so are your strips.
A BG of 1.4mmol/L would have you been unconscious or worse.
As you obviously weren't I would question your meter.

Thanks for replying yes its new so this morning 1st test was 7.7mmo/l before eating or drinking so i will see how it goes from here on in.
