Hi
Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between being Prediabetic and borderline. I knew 8 years ago that I had a glucose intolerance when I had the two hour glucose test at the hospital so I have had a fasting blood test each year since. Last years test showed a glucose level of 7 at the first test and 6.8 at the second two weeks later. This year the first blood test showed a glucose level of 6.9 and I had another blood test yesterday so have not had that result yet. My doctor said I am very borderline so is this different to prediabetes.
I am 74 years old and take medication for high blood pressure and statins for raised cholesterol so I mostly have a low fat diet with plenty of vegetables and fruit I don't eat a lot of sweet stuff and I certainly don't need to loose weight as I am around 8st 11 lb and have never been overweight in my life

Borderline usually means your number is just below the level at which a diagnosis would be given, so if for example 7.0 and above is diabetic and you read 6.9 then you are borderline - very close but not actually meeting the criteria.

Pre-diabetes usually means having some or all of the symptoms of diabetes without actually meeting the diagnostic criteria. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/pre-diabetes.html

You say you eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, the latter is of course a source of sugars.
