Anonymous Question Prediabetes Diet for Vegetarians?

I am also vegetarian, and type 2 dibetic. from the info on this site I adapted the LCHF diet and ate to my meter readings. I have lost 3st in 5 months, and feel great, (still have some weight to loose) if you want to let us know what your diet is like now and your bs readings are. I can give you some pointers

Hi, thank you for your kind reply. At the moment, I have either 2 shredded wheat and semi skimmed milk or oat so simple original made with water and no sugar on either, then an apple or pear as well fro breakfast. I have a peanut butter sandwich for lunch and a banana and lots of vegetables and greek yogurt for tea time. I don`t like quorn or anything similar that tastes like meat and I don`t like fish or eggs. Is LCHF low calorie high fibre ?

I`ve been logging my food intake on My Fitness Pal for 2 weeks now, but my carbs and sugar nearly always are too high and protein too low. Do you take a fish oil tablet at all and vitamin D ? Someone told me I should be taking them as being vegetarian means you can be deficient in them.

I hope you can please advise me.

Congratulations on your weight loss, you have done really good.

Hi and welcome:)

LCHF means Low Carb High Fat.
You may find Rose Elliott's Low Carb Diet books useful, I can't remember the names off hand but look them up on Amazon. There is also a great low carb gluten free cookbook on there too. Again, I can't remember the author, Celia something. Though I own all these, I have the memory of a goldfish tonight!

I am a bit confused. Is annieg the OP?

Anyway, I am T2 veggie and follow low carb, high fat as per http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf. You just adapt it to fit what you eat.

"Personalised diet plan" I think you have to create one yourself unless you are Oprah and can pay someone to do it. Best thing to do is test blood 2 hours after trying new food so see what suits you. You soon build up a big list of meals.

Fish oil tablets - no they are made of fish. I am even more confused now LOL

@annieg Your diet would be considered healthy if you did not have to watch your blood glucose levels. Reducing carbs including those from fruit (except berries and avocados) will make a big difference.

Perhaps you friend was thinking of omega fish oils? You can get omega oils from flax seed oil. It is low carb and vegetarian.

I started taking a multivitamin + iron tablet when i was diagnosed at Christmas time. Just covering all bases.

Just shout if you have any questions :)

I also don't eat quorn or other meat like products. I don't take any supplements apart from kelp tablets now and again. As others have said .. Low carb and high fat diet .. So no skimmed milk, I have a little full fat milk in tea and cream for coffee .. Looking to boost protein with almonds, and have my own hens so do eat eggs. Cheese omelet is good. Avoiding bread, potatoes, pasta and rice. I make mushroom risotto with pearl barely, as rice spikes my sugar levels.
Best to test before and after eating then you can build up what's best for you. I cannot eat oats or wheat products without my sugar rising.
Lots of fresh salads and cheese sauces for collieflowers ......
