Prediabetes Prediabetes fasting bloods result

Hi ..just been to the nurse and asked what the result of my fasting boold results were .. fasting bloods were tsken last werk ....result was 65 .. and wss told am prediabetec was told to excercise and eat healthy ..anyond got any ideas on food etc ..this is all new to me so any help appreciated

In your other thread you said you had been diagnosed T2, and a result of 65 suggests this is an HbA1c in mmol/mol which confirms that.

I don't understand what your nurse is saying if that is the right number. Can you clarify exactly what your test results were (get a printout from the surgery)?
 
Hi .. sorry may have mislead you in first post .. i only assumed i was T2 ..the dr said last week the bloods showed it was up but not too bad ..made appointment with nurse so was there today .. i ask if it was pre or T2 ..she said it was pre ..asked her for result and was told 65 she said as long as it was under 70 ..
 
OK but what are the units of that 65 number? It's either an HbA1c in which case you are diabetic, or it makes no sense in any units I am aware of.
 
Hi again .. will get a print out ..should have asked for one ..what baffles me is if i am a disbetic T2 Why was i never offered meds .. also i asked should i test, answer was no ..
 
Could it have been an hba1c of 6.5?

If that's the case (HbA1c of 6.5%) then it's equivalent to 47.6, which is just under the normally assumed diabetic threshold of 48. But if the nurse said 'anything under 70 (7.0%, 53 mmol/mol) is OK, that's wrong for a diagnosis.

Either way you are in a reasonable place to start managing the condition and get back to non-diabetic levels. The key to this is to reduce carbs as well as obvious sugars, and the advice given on the other thread still holds. The nurse's advice to 'eat healthily' almost certainly refers to the NHS 'Eatwell Plate' which is disastrous for most diabetics as it contains far too many carbs.

I think you mean 6.5 so prediabetic 7 and over is T2

OK you are prediabetic - my post above still applies though. The 6.5 could have been a fasting glucose in mmol/l.
 
Thanks ..really is confusing all this but am sure in the coming months things will become clearer !! Got any tips on foods etc .. not a great cook so need simple !!
 
It is confusing but it is essential you get print outs and note the measurement units. A fasting blood glucose test is not the same units as an HbA1c for example, so if you quote numbers on here it would help to include the measurement units.

One word ...... YES. You can also use it to check what your chosen food is doing to your levels by testing before you eat and again 2 hours after you start - the difference in levels is what that food did to you. If you get one, let us know and we can help you make the best use of it.
 
Many thanks ..thats what i wanted to do ,..see whats going on after i eat ..get one tomorrow..will keep you posted and again thanks to yourself and all who replied to my questions ...

Great! When I was told I was prediabetic the doctor didn't give me any more information and I assumed "pre" meant nothing serious. I should have done some research on my own, but I assumed if it was serious that my doctor would tell me. Next test: an HbA1c in diabetic range. I'm glad you are trying to avoid that.
