Has anybody else been prediabetic this long 6 yrs? I check my blood in the am and it usually is 97, sometimes a little lower sometimes a little higher. Should I be checking it after meals? I do have blurry vision a lot, plus I'm overweight. I'm trying to lose weight, but nothing works. I'm beginning to think I'm insulin resistant. Does insulin resistant go hand-in-hand with prediabetes? Thanks

Dee

Hi,

I have never been diagnosed with pre-diabetes so I can't answer your first question.

Are you eating a low carb diet? Cutting the carbs right down will help your glucose levels a lot, and will also help you lose weight.

It is a very good idea to check your glucose before you eat and again 2 hours after your first bite. This will tell you whether that meal caused your levels to rise too much. If it did (say above 36mg/dl or 2mmol/) then there were too many carbs in that meal that need tweaking and reducing.

Being overweight is a symptom of insulin resistance, although not everyone overweight has insulin resistance, but I suggest that as you are pre-diabetic, you are also likely to have this.

I can't see any reason why not. I started off being pre-diabetic about a year ago (though from what I know now I suspect I'd been in the diabetic range long before then) and now I'm in the normal range. I plan to stay that way from here to eternity :D

I've been prediabetic for 6 years. I was borderline with normal when first diagnosed, I've got better and worse and now better again with a HBA1C of 40 in December. Definately check at least 2 hours after your meals if you can.

This forum is great for advice and information

I'm having a hard time losing weight so I'm pretty sure I'm insulin resistant ! I need to cut carbs better! Pasta, rice my downfall ! I know what I need to do , but having a hard time doing it! Which is really really stupid of me!! Gonna give low carb and exercise my priority !
