HI there
I am type 2 diabetic with metformin 500mg x 2 twice a day. Blood Sugar recently been well controlled however I am in terrible pain with left shoulder and I have been prescribed a drug called prednisolone tablets for 1 week only after an injection 2 weeks ago failed to help at all. I am concerned that my blood sugar is getting progressively worse. I took it this evening before my meal and it was 12.1 very unusual for me just checked it now and that is after 2 metformin after my meal and it is up to 14.2 I am drinking lots of water trying to get my sugar down but this is worrying me.

Hi Gordie, raised levels are extremely common with corticosteroid meds like Prednisolone. If you are only on it short term (and I'm assuming you're on no more than 40mg), levels will come down again but it can take a few weeks. Try not to worry, make sure you are paying attention to your diet (lowering carbs) and all should be well.:)

Thank you I am on 20mg per day. 4 x 5mg first thing in the morning. It is nice to speak to someone reassuring I live on my own with my cat so I tend to worry a bit more.

You're very welcome - I had to take these for many, many years and they can cause serious problems but a short dose will not hurt you at all. Don't forget to watch the diet though! I'm not sure what you eat, but cereal, bread (all sorts!), potatoes, rice and pasta are not good for blood glucose levels. Try cutting back as much as you can.

Take care:)
