Hello again everyone how are you all? This post is more geared towards women. I had laser eye surgery on Friday and saw my diabetic consultant today and hold him of my plans to have a second child. He said now was not a good idea because of the treatent to my eyes. I don't really want to wait as I'm not getting any younger and I want my children to be close in ages so they can play together etc., has anyone else had a similar thing and have their eyes been ok?
Thanks.

Hi Claire,

As you no do it know, being pregnant places additional strain on your eyes and can make retinopathy symptoms worse. Did you doctor say how long you should wait? Completely understand why you might not want to wait, but if he means waiting a few months then I'd say that sounds reasonable. If he's saying wait another year, that's a bit different.

I don't have kids myself but am keen to start a family in the not too distant future. My DSN keeps telling my pregnancy and diabetes do not mix and that I should look at other options. This really annoys me. Sure, it's not going to be a walk in the park, but it doesn't mean that having kids isn't an option! Sorry - has to get that off my chest :)

Em x
