pregnancy and metformin

Hi I'm new to the forum....type two and 10 3 days pregnant my question is has anyone been on metformin while pregnant and how long for?

The reason I ask is I'm concerned ill end up on insulin and I don't want this. My bloods have been between 3.4 and 7.2 in the last month.

Hi,

Im type 1 and 15+5 pregnant, ive been one metformin for many years, and its been fine with pregnancy. It is quite a difficult one to start as it can make you feel very queasy so I would ask for the slow release one if you don't get on with the standard one! Metformin is great for getting your body to use insulin more effectively!

I've had two pregnancies whilst taking metformin, the first I was given insulin, the second I controlled well enough to do without.

Have you been to a diabetic antenatal clinic yet? Your levels seem well controlled, check out nice for the guidelines in pregnancy.

Just found out number 3 is on the way, think I'm about 9 weeks!
