Hi guys and gals. I am brand spanking new to this site but I have been diabetic for 23 years.

I write for some advice from other pregnant diabetics or diabetic mothers to request some info concerning eating whilst pregnant. what food stuffs to eat and what to avoid. i am also vege just to be more akward!!!

Can anyone offer some advice? I have just found out i am 6 weeks pregnant.

Also some advice on HB1AC as i admit i am bad and only have bloods taken every 12-18 months. I HATE GIVING BLOOD but i think i will need to give more blood now that i am pregnant.

As i said any info on either of the subjects would be just fab.

Kind regards Juels

Hi jules
I can,nt give you any advise but you could contact yur local diabetic team. Im also happy to find that im not the only veggie in the village up the vegatarians

Congratulations.

Your community midwife should be able to advise you on foods etc. You should meet her at your first antinatel appoinments. Ask your GP surgery to book you in for appoinment early so you can get some advice they will also sugest what suplements that all mothers to be should take. It used to be folic acid but it might have changed.

By the time your baby arrives you won't worry about giving blood, as the world and its mother would have had a look and a poke around.

Being a mum is the best job in the world..........well sometimes.

Good luck to you and your growing family.

Virtually no booze, no pate, no blue cheese, no undercooked eggs.

Apart from that you can eat normally. Getting great blood sugar control is easier if you reduce refined carbs in your diet and replace them with green / salad vegetables.

You may have cravings for things. This is a good laugh. Mine were ice cream/ very strong coffee milk shakes ( four dessertspoons of coffee per glass) grapefruit, blackcurrants, kentucky fried chicken. You never know what it will be. I am indifferent to these things normally.

no liver either !

Make sure all cream cheese has been pasteurised ansd you cook any micro meals properly.

You also need to take folic acid .

wash you hands if you have been gardening and pref wear gloves - otherwise advice as above.

Cravings can be very wierd - i didnt get any or go off anything but the funniest thing i saw at antenatal class was a woman crunching on a piece of coal - that was straight out of a text book!

Most of all enjoy it - I have 3 now teenagers!
