I wanted to know what are the do's and don'ts on getting pregnant with type 1 diabetes?
Thank you

Well it is 36 years since I had my children. I was the first home treated diabetic in the country. I told my specialist Dr G Alberti that putting me in hospital would kill me and the baby, I have hated hospitals since the age of 3 when I was first diagnosed. So I got a huge meter to have at home and frequent checkups. I have always kept my blood sugars in the normal range and I maintained that more rigorously than ever when pregnant. I had a surprising result due to the pregnancy in that I became nearly free from insulin. I dropped from 96 units per day to 16. All I can say is keep your sugars down and eat the right foods, plenty of protein and low glycaemic starches, lots of fruit and iron. You will be just fine. I am now 62 and have no complications. My grandchildren are going to university(the oldest one is at least) and I expect to see my great grandchildren in the next 10 years or so.
