Hiya

just wanted to share my nightmare day between the doctors and the chemist, started out by visiting the doctors to see if the prescription Dylans DSN had phoned through was ready they said it was and had been taken over to the chemist to be dispensed, great i thought no so long to wait if its already there. anyway had another prescription i dropped in the end of last week to pick up at the same time as we were nearly out of test strips.

so i get there tell them there should be 2 for us she looks through one is done the one i ordered the other is in the process thats ok ill wait i tell the lady, she hands me the completed one but it only contains needles so i explain there should be test strips they reply no not according to our records so i say while im waiting i will return to the doctors and enquire as i really needed the strips and ad def checked the box for them.

so i get to the doctors yes they were def sent across they say so i explain they have no record at the chemist and that i really am down to my last few so really need them, thats fine the lovely lady at reception explains ill find a doctor and get it signed for u, so i wait 10 mins and they have it sorted for me, i return to the chemist prescription in hand they do it all up pass it to me and i return home.

when i get home i turn it all out to unpack it and the adhesive spray remover the nurse order is not there so i phone the doctors ' oh yes it was def on the prescription' so i phone the chemist ' no we have no record of a spray' so i rephone the doctors who agree to get a prescription done up for me to pick up later.

After work i visit the doctors the prescription is there waiting for me fantastic , get to the chemist oh sorry we dont stock that we can get it in for u tomorrow, i explain its my sons first cannula change tonight and i want it to go as pain free as possible so as not to put him off, so they very kindly phone the other 3 chemists in our town of which none of them stock it!!! The very nice chemist fond me a liquid version and said she will order in the correct one for us as well which is lovely but i do feel a bit drained today after all the running about lol

now for a well deserved feet up before Dylan gets home and we have to do this first change of cannula fingers crossed it goes well,

thanx for listening to me

Hi Anne Marie,

Yikes...what a lot of running around. Great that the Drs were so understanding. Hope the cannula change goes well.

I stopped doing the automatic prescrip thing, where the Dr send them straight to the chemist, as teh chemist kept giving me what they claimed were on teh prescription...but it was often a few items short. Fisrt time....OK, either I or the Dr made a mistake...so I reordered. I then teh Dr complaining they had only prescribed it early in teh week..and I couldn't have run out already! The next time I demanded to see teh prescription...they refused, so I asked again more formally, and loudly...so they got the original script from the pile...and guess what...they had forgotten to dispense my strips.

Not saying they are all dishonest, far from it, but now I prefer to check myself exactly what is in teh prescription, before the pharmacist gets hold of it. The one I had teh issue with was my local Tesco pharamacist...hope I am allowed to say that!

hi

its a pain when u think u have it on order, i always order them in plenty of time then pick them up when im ready so today when i popped in expecting to get them with a few left and they werent there i was frustrated but at least the doctor never quieries it and always takes me at my word which today having it happen with 2 things they may not have

What a nightmare...

Does the chemist you get your script from provide an ordering system, where you phone them and they order your script from your docs? I have found ordering my prescription via the chemist system rather than via the surgery, lessens the amounts of ****-ups suffered...

Another thing I have learnt over the years, is to check what's been dispensed when the chemist give it to you, and not when you get home... For me any mistakes found at home means a trip across town to my sugery and chemist...

I hope that Dylan's set change goes well tonight, Taking the dressing off isn't quite like a taking a plaster off, doesn't pull at the skin as much or creates pain.. But fully understand why you want to make sure it doesn't hurt in any way, if you do ever get caught out without any liftplus then just use some soapy warm water (bubble bath) and dap onto dressing to wet through, leave to soak for 5 minutes this should be enough to remove without it pulling at the skin..

i know i usually do check before i leave but with one mistake already done i didnt expect a second one in the same order should have known better really lol. still all sorted now thats the main thing i suppose.

hopefully will go well got ametop cream as well to ease the pain abit of inserting new cannula hes very nervous have just put cream on so will wait 30 mins for it to work then all systems go :D just want it to be positive for him so we can perservere with the pump

Hi Anna Marie, sorry to here about the **** ups, I'm sure that we have all been there, I know we have. When Lily changed from injections to the pump we had a real time trying to get the Dr's receptionist to understand that what we needed had changed and the pen refills were now changing to vial bottles. She got very stroppy with Liz, my wife, and said that they had not recieved a fax from the DSN for a change of prescription so Liz had the nurse phone them and afterwards they managed to find it, amazing don't you think :).
We had a doctors appointment this week just to keep them up to date and to forewarn them that we would be going on holiday and would need extras of certain things. The doctor was fine with this and said to drop a list of things that we need in at reception and they would be ready the next day. At least with a written list they shouldn't get it wrong :?: .
I'm sure that Dylans change will go well and with the cream taking the sting out he will be fine.

hi harry :D
yes all went well the cream helped, we havent been given any on prescription i bought some from boots will see on mon if i can get some added i think as we had no tears at all took it well and i feel really positive about the whole thing :)

anna marie

Thats brilliant Anna Marie, and Dylan too. I'm so glad it went well. We get emla cream on prescription but if we had to buy it I would do so gladly, as it has made a big difference to how Lily feels about the cannula changes. It is not that expensive and we only use a small amount, enough to cover the injection site (about the size of a penny). We cover it with a clear film dressing which would cost about 90p each if we had to buy them, so quite expensive for what they are..
I am sure you and Dylan will not regret going on the pump.

Harry

i did ask for emla cream but apparently its only on prescription so they gave me ametop as could buy that over the counter was 1.80 for a small tube that will do one use but if it makes site changes a positive thing im with u id gladly buy it, just thought it was worth an ask on prescription when we are back in on mon.

at this moment in time i feel very positive about the pump and am looking forward to a bright future with it, when i think dylan wasnt keen on the idea and i persuaded him to give it a try after we had tried everything else i think hes a convert to, and im so glad we are doing it now and not in the teenage years as hes quite embarrassed about people seeing the site which im sure will fade with some time

thanks for ur support harry

We use the emla cream quite sparingly and although it is only a small tube, 5g, we get about 3 or 4 changes out of it. It needs to be on for 1 hour but we have done a change after 45mins and Lily has been fine with that.
It can be bought online, check out this link
EMLA-Cream (Google it)
These are 5g tubes and were used for tattoos but it is exactly the same as what we have. if you can get it on prescription though all the better.
