Prescription Test Strips

How many test strip do you get per month? I have been asked to test myself 4 times per day and sometimes during, before or after exercise. I have only been given 50 strips for blood glucose and 50 for ketone. This is to cover 1 month. The math doesn't work out. Who do I speak to? My doctor or my diabetes nurse?

I am not limited to anything 'per month' but I get 300 strips at a time
 
Speak to your GP first, but if that doesn't work then ask your consultant to write a letter.
 
Having the same problem my self they told be to check between 6-8 times yet I only get 100 strips. They last me two weeks and right now I have none. I had to go to boots several times and now my doctors is away on holiday :-( lucky me

There must surely be a locus in place during GP vacation ?




Late onset T1, several auto immune issues.
Humalogmix25 twice a day, Methotrexate 25mg once per week, FolicAcid 5mg once per week, prednisolone 5mg daily, Allopurinol 300mg, Calcichew-D3 800iu, Levothyroxine 50mcg, Atenolol 50mg, Losarten 100mg, Aspirin 75mg, Nicorandil 20mg, Nitrolingual GTN spray, Metformin 2000mg, Allimemazine 10mg, Lanzoprazole 30mg, Atorvastatin 20mg, Co Codamol 8/500mg, Depo Medrone (Methylprednisolone) or double Prednisolone for 7 days in case of RA flare.
 

I rang them up and asked for the strips they said you've had as many as you can for the month this was 2 weeks ago so I had to go buy some. I rang back asking to speak to a doctor they told me to ring back every time I ring they tell me to ring back. Then I asked them for an appointment with another doctor they gave me one which is in two weeks time kind of pointless.

I have had type 1 for 14 years and booking appointments and offering supply's has been a nightmare.

I get a minimum of 300 strips per order and I'm pushing them to get 600 per order. Strictly speaking if the orders were monthly that's more than I need, but my chemist is rubbish with automatic repeats and I am rubbish at picking them up, so 600 per pickup is nearer to the mark. I did once get a call from the GP that 300 strips a month was too much but I gave them an earful. I guess 150 a month would be ok for most people, that's 5 tests a day. I like to test more often (sometimes).
 
Update .. Just got my 100 now I need to chase my GP. Can not complain about my pharmacy they pick up my prescription and then drop the order off in the evening... perfect ;-)

My doctor originally set the prescription up for 100 strips at a time. I dropped him a note showing him the math of testing and he has reset the totals to give enough strips for a month at a time.

I think it helps that he spent time working with the diabetes group under my consultant as a student.
 
I get 200 at a time but have never had a problem ordering earlier than once a month, though it's a pain ordering roughly every 2-3 weeks and I do keep meaning to ask them to up the amount per script since everything else lasts longer!
 
I get 200 strips at a time. It normaly lasts about 4ish weeks.
The surgery never have a problem doing a repeat when I ask and my GP has a special interst in diabetes so I don't get any problems with this (thank goodness).
 
Oops sorry I got my maths wrong. My normal order is 200 not 300.
