Hello, friends. brothers in misfortune. I ask you to answer a few questions. I'm a doctor. my wife is sick the first type of diabetes. we are from Russia. the city of St. Petersburg. we have insurance, but still a lot of money is spent on treating the disease. namely. - Measurement of blood glucose levels. I was very interested in how things work in your country with the glucose measurement. you buy test strips? glucometers? lancets? needle? or you get for free? and which ones. I would be very grateful for the help. Best wishes to you.
Hi @suhorukow,
Welome.
I am not a type 1, but a type 2, but my experience was:
Needles, lancets : all free with an exemption certificate (as are all prescription items if under diabetic medications)
Test strips: free as long as under insulin or hypo-causing medications (e.g. gliclazide)
Glucometers : free from manufacturers in order to generate demand for strips.
As long as you are insulin dependant, you can get the strips, but when you are not insulin dependant, GPs are reluctant to prescribe the strips, in general.
Type 2 Recently diagnosed Feb 2 2016...
