Hi,
I read a lot of posts which state that people would like their blood tested but the GP doesnt think that the next test is due or necessary. Personally if individuals have the commitment and sense to manage their sugars and fats daily, then the least they deserve is the support of their local practice and the re-assurance that testing provides. Trigs and other readings can drop tremendously in a month, so why do the GPs insist we wait for 3 months?!!. Are there facilities in the UK to have blood tested privately on a regular basis?. Does anyone know how much trig, cholesterol or HBA1c testing actually costs the GP?. I know that Lloyds charge £15 for a very simple cholesterol indication.

Regards Steve

People I know with private insurance find the results somewhat variable, to a degree it depends on what kit the lab they use has. For example someone with thyroid issues still has difficulty getting T3 and T4 done privately, let alone CRP or homocysteine. Probably in a different area these tests would be readily available - at a price.

I once had a fantasy that if I won the lottery I'd start a business and call it The NHS Plc. where vans equipped with lab test equipment would call at your door and do on the spot tests.

Testing every 3months  . My Gp thinks 6 months is enough and I have to arrange it myself, because If I don't, It gets done once a year only. So this time, I collected the "card" from the DSN when I went for the annual review. It's in my bag waiting for me to make an appointment in July.
in addition, I have got permission, to go to the hospital for the blood samples. Otherwise everyone is meant to go to the Health Centre, but I'm VERY difficult to get blood from and I'm getting phobic about the amount of pain their Phlebotomist puts me through. The doctor is worse still. If I let them near my veins, I end up black and blue in at least 3 locations. there's an angel at the hospital, who not only does it perfectly, but understands why I've got so anxious about it.
